Gossamer

Willow sat on Giles' green sofa, with Cassidy cooing in her arms. She, herself, was beginning to show, and as she sat there she tried to imagine it was their own child she was holding. Cassidy wriggled and clutched at her feet with tiny little fingers, trying to suck her toes. Oz, who sat perched on the arm of the sofa, raised an eyebrow.

"Impressive." he said.

"Yeah," agreed Willow, smiling up at him. "I wish I could still do that. I guess it won't be long before I won't even be able the see mine, never mind put them in my mouth. At least if I could do that I would know they were clean." She squeezed Oz's hand.

"I think we can keep your feet clean." he said, smiling back.

The house was bustling around them. Buffy could be heard, sparing with Xander in the court yard. (In fact their grunts and giggles could be heard by the rest of the block.) However for the three of them, at least, the sofa was an oasis of calm.

Giles walked through the lounge, a pencil in him mouth and an open book in his hand, in search of a lap top. However, spying his daughter, playing with her toes, he backed up and leaned over to stroke her hair.

"She's really quite remarkable." he said quietly, putting the pencil behind his ear and forgetting the task at hand completely.

It had been like that since Jenny had realised she was pregnant. The house had suddenly been filled with things. Dr Spock sat next to powerful arcane texts and the magik equipment and weapons had been moved into cupboards with plastic child-safe catches. However these were proving a bit of a problem for Giles, who was considering locking them properly in a chest, if only he could work out where the nappies would then go.

Giles smiled down at his daughter. "She really has no idea how special she is." he said, collapsing into the nearest chair. He stared at the latest expectant couple. "And how are the two of you doing?" he asked.

Willow looked at Oz and smiled. "We're fine. "She replied. "It's silly but we keep walking around with stupid grins on our faces. And being around Cassidy makes it all seem so much more... real. This is what we are going to get. And she moves..."

"And cries, and eats like a horse, and captivates everyone who comes within a hundred yards of her." Jenny called from the kitchenette. She had stopped typing when the kettle boiled.

"Did you hear what happened to Spike, the first time he saw her?" she asked, walking through with a tray full of juices and tea.

"He didn't know what to do with himself." said Giles, a soft smile spreading across his face. "Jenny plonked her in his arms and went back to her work at the computer."

"He just stood there for a while, holding her under her arms, and staring at her." Jenny continued. "He won't admit it but he very nearly went all gooey". She laughed.

"I think that's why he stayed away so long," she continued. "I think he was scared he'd damage his image."

"Spike getting gooey over a baby..." mused Oz. "Who'd have thought?"
